Dreamhack Winter 2010 Journal

Preparations for the Dreamhack trip started early and at Tuesday 23th of November it was time to execute the devious plan! Verdisha started his journey earliest at eight o’ clock in the morning and started to crawl towards Helsinki, after four hours he arrived at the destination still at daylight.

Few hours later after the darkness started to take over, the stealthy rogue Maeil made his way to the Pasila train-station and continued onwards to the destination of the day.

The ingenious plan was to go to Helsinki day earlier than the actual flight was happening and meet up with some local Paragon gangsters like the notorious Anaram, Mancheese, Rihmz, Jubeto, Wakoz, Arx and Xenophics.

The real journey towards the Dreamhack started on Wednesday, Tuutti and Wakoz played it safe and arrived at the airport three hours prior to the departure. Maeil and Verdisha planned their travel to the airport with a tighter schedule, they thought leaving to airport one and half hour before flight is a good idea.

The travel for Maeil and Verdisha towards airport did not go as planned, the bus to the airport was late over 20 minutes and they arrived to the airport 30 minutes before flight departure. Checking for the flight was already closed but they still managed to pull through, though they were warned that the cargo might not be so lucky.

After the brief flight we made it safely to the Sweden and luckily the baggage was included with the flight. From airport we took a train to Stockholm central train-station and continued our journey.

We were hungry and we thought we would have time for a fast meal in the steak restaurant nearby the train station before the next train leaving to Jönköping. Once again we were caught in a hurry, we had around five minutes time to eat our steaks, after finishing our meal fast we rushed to the next train and we got there few minutes before the departure.

Tuutti and Maeil could not make it anymore without their precious computers, nerds!

Meanwhile Verdisha and Wakoz were extremely bored and struggled to stay awake the whole three hours the first part of the train-journey took.

We changed train in Fälköping and started the last part of the journey towards Jönköping and Dreamhack!

At around eight o’ clock in the evening we arrived to the final destination of the day, Quality hotel Jönköping. There was nothing planned for the rest of the day, so we had a dinner in the hotel restaurant and after that we relaxed in a finnish way, checking out the awful sauna in the hotel.

Thursday started out cheerfully, Wakoz had somehow lost his authenticator. We messed up their room to find the authenticator, but could not find it. Luckily due to amazing customer service at Blizzard Wakoz got his account unlocked and was able to play in the event.

At around 11 o’ clock we arrived to the Dreamhack and the Steelseries booth. Shortly after that we started updating and configuring our computers and getting ready for the evenings Naxx10 five man action.

There was not really much happening during the first day of the Dreamhack so we spent most of our time fooling around at the event.

Hunger finally took over us and we decided to grab something to eat, since Tuutti was accompanying us, and as the kebab master he demanded we would take “en rulle” times eight.

Friday morning started out with some Starcraft 2 casted by the world famous Day9. Verdisha spent most of the day watching SC2 while the rest were checking the Dreamhack area more closely and started levelling new alts out of boredom.

Later in the evening we all headed to watch some guitar hero at the finals held at the DreamArena Extreme.

It was finally time to start our own raid. Due to the lack of content we blazed through Sartha25, Malygos25, Ulduar25HC and Toc25HC in less than two hours using the delicate tactic “paskoo vaan”.

After the raid we felt hungry and we had heard that MAX offered the best hamburgers in Sweden, so we checked it out on our way to the hotel. We picked the biggest hamburgers to deal with our hunger, they were actually pretty good.

We (Verdisha) started out Saturday a bit slower. After we finally managed to drag Verdisha out of the bed at around 12.00 we headed to the town to get some food.

We were recommended by Steelseries to check out the towns so called best pizzeria, Alcamo. They had one of weirdest pizzas we have seen, but the ones we ordered were good. (Africa - Banana, pineapple and curry?!?)

Swedish defence forces main tank was also attending the event and was sharing tanking tips outside of Dreamhack.

Saturday continued smoothly, Verdisha went to see Day9 and rest of the crew was chilling at the booth.

We all went to see the Starcarft II finals, queues were huge, but luckily we had exhibitor wristbands which made it possible for us to skip the queue and get to the DreamArena Extreme where the finals were being held.

The final was played among two top mouzesport players, Mana and Naama. The matches were interesting and thrilling, but in the end the finnish player Naama claimed the victory with 3-2 score.

After the Starcraft final it was time to start our own main raid of the event, ICC 25HC and Halion 25HC. The raids went quite smoothly and we had quite many viewers in the booth and at the hallways. Soon after the raids it was time for us to say goodbye to Dreamhack and leave to pack our luggage at the hotel.

Early on Sunday morning we left to the Jönköping trainstation and grabbed the train heading to Nässjö. From there we took a train to Stockholm, which was supposed to be a lot faster than the one we used when coming to Dreamhack. Instead the train was one and half hour late.

After the arrival to Stockholm, we headed again to same restaurant “Jensen’s Bofhus” and due to the train being late, we once again did not have time to enjoy our steaks as much as we would have wanted.

The trip was coming to its end, we took train to the airport from central train-station, hopped in the plane and made it to Finland in one piece. After the arrival, we split up outside the terminal and headed our own ways to home.
