If he would be really willing to put up that much money for a raid spot and the guild would be willing to accept the money should go to charity imo.
Of course the guild could probably also do useful things with it but it might be hard to distribute it in a way that everyone sees as fair.
Just my two cents in the unlikely situation they would accept it (and the OP actually means it).

well i'd have everything the game has to offer and by time cata comes out i can concentrate on that stuff rather than WotLK stuff, plus its not that much money, considering the monthly payments im would be paying to keep trying to do LK hc25, 1 payment and i get what i want and can focus on other things till cataclysm, and gettin boosted through LKhc25 is not a bad thing specially when your playing with people who run everything so smoothly, it would be a cool experience althought i'd prob want the chance at RS25hc for the melee trink tbh :) :P

Not much? For 500 Quid you can pay 50 months of WoW if you purchase each month individually.... more than four years of game time... I would bet that you have finished LK25HC before you spend 500 Quid on subscription payments ;)

Damn, why not?
I'm no "Paragonese" but i think you guys should give it a shot to the raid-spot contest. I believe much people would try it since it isn't only a fancy tour but a great opportunity to learn from the bests (literally).
An optional plus is this, imagine the following headline:
"World of Warcraft's #1 guild donates $xxxx to orphanage"
It isn't only "the good action of the day" but also sounds good :)
think about it.

To OP:
I certainly don't knock those who are the best... they earned it. And in this fashion Paragon has a reputation and distinction.
That being said... The allure behind epic raid gear is that one has worked; through blood, sweat and tears; downed that boss (whether it was on the first or the 5757th try... a boss kill is a boss kill), and in return you have loots to take with you, and the pride/bragging rights of the kill and plunder.
Now I know for a fact that during the WoLK Naxx days, gear was an indicator of the viability of a toon in a raid. After all, if someone should have earned the title: "Sir Diesalot", noone would take them anywhere and they would probably be found in BG's.
Nowadays, two factors come to play. One, gear since 3.3 has been so easy to obtain that the raiding class has been reduced to the lowest possible common denominator (thank you Blizz for promising to fix this!!). Also, the gearscore upgrades between ilvl 264 and ilvl 277 are very rarely worth the investment (in fact more are downgrades which catch ppl by the GS addon), unless you're doing so wholesale.
That being said, if I may be so bold to put my two cents in, it is a cheat to one's self (and to the server/game as a whole) to pay gold to be basically carried through an instance (and even if you're on top of your game, I argue this from the perspective that in a 24/25 guild raid... you cannot be expected to know the playstyle/strat; so you'll automatically be the loose end in a chain, even if a minuscule one) for title or gear.
Now if someone were to say, "Hey, I would like to see how raid coordination/communication works and how to merge class abilities... what would it be worth to run a ToC for old time's sake?" (or similar instance you have like 3-50 clears on)... I would tend to think this would be a more alluring prospect for anyone.
