Obviously the moment Cata is released there will be various numbers of people across the globe trying to get world first lvl 85. I am not one of these people, however; I was wondering if it would be worth it to have heirlooms on current 80's so that the leveling process will go faster or if it would be better to just keep epics and use upgrades through the Cata dungeons. Thanks in advance.

The current heirlooms will only work from levels 1-80, so they will be quite useless. Heirlooms that work all the way to 85 will have to be purchased at 85 with the new "badges".

It's been stated that the current plan is to not have the old heirlooms function past level 80, so buying them for leveling 80-85 is accordingly pointless unless Blizzard changes their decision.
