What are your guys' Gearscores? And are you aware of a max GS possible or the highest current GS?

Well to be fair if you dont use Gearscore it's hard to determine the skill of a player.

Uh, what? Gearscore says nothing about skill.

I think GS is useful for situations in which you need to rapidly find people to do, for example, a public 25 men group for VOA, TOC or even ICC.

The Achievement by itself may only mean the person was carried in other opportunity or is using a fake achievement addon.

But in guild recruitment and to select players for specific important fights, it's always better to know the players, if their gear is oriented for optimization (instead of GearScore) and know their play skill from playing with them previously.

Many people don't use the correct gems, enchants and use bad items with high item level (which adds more to Gscore) just because of the number. As much as it is useful it's also a "curse", that make people worry too much about high gear score numbers.

That's why most good guilds ask for logs of the previous player raids and even test the player before recruiting.

Here, let me fix that troll radar for you. I'm an engineer with GS of 7284.

Gearscore could have been a useful tool to quickly evaluate the gear level of a player. As usual though, people are stupid, and use it as the determining criterion for... whatever really. So many people with high gearscore fail so utterly horribly that it isn't even funny.

Gearscore is mostly useless as it is, really. All it is right now is an average ilevel value with some rather weird multipliers given to some things. Which leads to people wearing pvp items or items that have basically no beneficial stats just to buff their "GS".

Interestingly enough it wouldn't actually be that hard to make it somewhat more meaningful - just make it count the stats instead of ilevel and assign some rough stat values for each class/spec (there aren't that many out there really, when you only need rough values) and you'd have a tool to get a very rough idea of someone's gear potential.
