Hello, first time here at this forum. Have been reading some of the stuff about dk's and i was glad to get some back-up on my point on engineering :)

This is a question about dw-frost dps.
First of all, if Rawr by any chance does not work optimal atm. for gearing dw frost dks, this entry doesn't have a point.

I was looking through Rawr noting what gear that will be an upgrade etc. Nothing shocking suprising, untill i came by my weapons.

The Onyxia-loot: "Raging Deathbringer" ilvl 245, should be out-performing my current weapons: "Frost Giants Cleaver" by 200 dps each. And the only weapons that're better Are Heroic Havoc Call of Lordareon King, and Heroic Bloodvenom Blade.

I can post stats on both of them:

Frost Giant's Cleaver: 374-695 dmg, 2.6 speed, 205.6 dps.
62 agi, 47 sta, 94 AP, 45 crit, 35 arp

Raging Deathbringer: 371-690 dmg, 2.7 speed, 196.5 dps
Chance on hit (9% according to Rawr) Shadow Bolt with 1458-1874 dmg

So my question is, can it be true that the Raging Deathbringer is better than my Frost Giant's Cleaver? I was asking around some DK's i knew and thought were kinda smart, and they all said Cleaver, and when im told them what Rawr said they got muted :( . So now you guys are my hope :)

Proc weapons greatly benefit DW frost and Unholy sub-frost specced DKs. The reason is, the proc itself benefits from Frost talents like Black Ice, as well as Blood Presence and Ebon Plaguebringer or CoE if you have an unholy DK or lock in your raid. Simply put, being a DW frost DK, your talents and raid debuffs value the proc's damage more than the stats provided from any other weapon.

Moreover, this weapon's proc has NO internal cooldown, which makes it that much greater for AoE fights where Howling Blast and Blood Boil are used more. Additionally, it should be noted that the proc on this weapon can happen off any attack, ranged or melee.

All things considered, this weapon's slow speed and powerful proc are great for DW DKs who don't have access to 258-284 weapons yet.

Tho, it's only iLevel 271 loot and up that's better according to Rawr.

What do u think about ARP gems in Frost Spec?Im interesting how it can nerf my AOE dps becouse i progress LK 25 HC and i dont want waste too much my DMG on valkiries.

As it is now, Arp, even close to the cap in almost full BiS gear, seems a rather marginal DPS increase. At leas from what i've seen of the top parses on f.e Festergut.

One thing puzzles me, to the point that I went here to ask.

Checking armories, it looks as if Paragon DKs, Synti and Liha in particular, were consciously stacking crit rating instead of stacking armor penetration like most DKs do today.

I thought it was proven (by simulation means) that due to ArP scaling, after a certain amount it becomes more valuable than crit, further promoting its stacking, up to ~1000 rating without gems. ArP should be better than crit, at least for single target DPS.

I'd like to know whether crit rating stacking is a conscious choice and what is the rationale behind it.

Not for sure but I think crit > ArP for Frost DW and ArP > crit for blood & unholy

Well just a brief check of WoL rankings for frost DPS on Saurfang (link) shows 8 of top 10 being ArP capped, and other 2 got lucky with crits.

I myself got roughly +700 DPS on Saurfang after going Str -> ArP (can provide logs if needed).

So, the question remains relevant.

Recent sims show Fierce Ametrines to be pulling ahead for both Unholy (sub Frost) and DW Frost. The DPS increase for DW Frost however, is not as high as it is for Unholy.... At max, 50 DPS. In fact, the Elitist Jerks Unholy DPS thread states that the DPS difference for even Unholy is marginal.

The extra haste makes more of a difference on fights with movement, which might be good for Unholy but which we know Frost doesn't like. This is one of the reasons I stay Unholy for Putricide, Blood Princes, etc.

I would recommend looking at your gear and deciding if it's worth it- personally I plan to wait.
