Stay with agi - though you might want to gem arp to softcap with that arp proc trinket.

You're way over hitcap, might want to try to fix that, and get 4T10 ASAP (stay away from the leggings though).

Note that the spreadsheets and simulators assume by default that every relevant buff and debuff has 100% uptime and you're playing with practically zero latency and not moving at all. So don't try to match the numbers in a fight with lots of target switching and movement...

Better ranged weapon would be massive dps boost. 4T10 (or even 2T9) would be useful also. Get rid of that agi/stam gem, use Nightmare Tear instead for activating the meta.

Grizz28 wrote:Hi there Kruf, I had a question about if I am ready to gem arp. I have about 756 arp from my gear alone and I tend to see alot of hunters gemming alot sooner then that. Here is my armory link. http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Madoran&cn=Grizz

A quick guesstimate would say you'd do about the same if not slightly more with arpen gems, but you might want to check with a spreadsheet or simulationcraft (sorry, there's simply too many asking for help for me to do that for everyone these days).

I dont have a question this time, i just wanna say thanks to Kruf, and other hunters from Paragon for the help he/they is doing for ppl here.
Guys/girls try not to ask to many stupid questions, many of the things ppl are asking for, there are guides here or on google try first that before asking here.

Greetings, Stingway

Amazing gear for only having raided for such a short time. If you had DBW you'd have better gear than me - I still have 2 pieces of 258 on...

That neck (and the NES) are the weak links in your gear, might want to try to get the ilevel 245 arpen neck from ToC10hc if nothing else.

Badkarma wrote:Per your recommendations earlier in the thread I will be buying the badge trinket in place of NES this week, femaledwarf indicates it's a 90dps upgrade which I definitely did not expect.

That's just to show how bad NES is. Though HWT is actually surprisingly good, as the "proc" buff stack has practically 100% uptime and provides quite a lot of AP, so even though the passive haste bonus isn't worth that much it's still a very good trinket overall.

Unnecessary movement. And quite lots of it - don't take one or two steps unles something absolutely forces you to. Also, use Disengage more when you actually have to move more than just a few steps.

For Putricide I actually prefer a spec with the range talents, since that way you won't have any need to move due to range issues. Also for early kills when the last phase dps was the make-or-break thing of the fight Kill Shot glyph was far better than anything else - dps in the early phases is practically irrelevant for getting a kill on it (you won't run into enrage timer before the p3 soft enrage gets you). Nowadays it's such a pushover that it doesn't really matter what one uses, though.

Badkarma wrote:Sindragosa 25H we just killed the first time this week, I don't think there was too much I messed up but again I'm sure there are things I should improve on. I was @ ~9700 dps when I died around 2%.

Here we have some of the same problem, some unnecessary movement, though a lot less than on Putricide. You also didn't manage your pet and it died in the last phase - you can just force it to attack the ice cubes and it'll generally get the stacks reset or at least get more heals from aoe heal splashes and stay alive.

Badkarma wrote:Also had one more question regarding lich king. We just started a few heroic attempts this week (only like 5) and will be casually doing progress on him. I feel most of it is very straightforward DPS wise except for DPSing the Valkyr's as a hunter. I have to run into the stack, sit there for a bit when they start coming until I find they don't pick me, then get back out like 10 yards due to their big hit boxes. Is there a more efficient method to doing DPS on them than this as a hunter? Do you know if feigning when they are about to pick targets take you off the list to be picked up / would it be worth it if so?

There's a few things about Val'kyrs and hunters. First of all, it is possible to use Disengage to get back to the platform after being dropped outside, but the timing is quite hard (in fact I wouldn't want to try relying on it without Levitate, and that's unreliable because there's damage from Infest etc) so since the dps requirement isn't totally insane you can just collapse to melee.

However, instead of just collapsing early when the timer runs out, what you do is this:

a) stand just outside the group, outside deadzone
b) have BigWigs
c) as soon as BigWigs says "Val'kyr" in the middle of your screen (better have that message enabled!) you run into the pile
d) once in the pile, drop Explosive Trap and start doing Volley until the third Val'kyr has landed, then move out (use Disengage if you think you won't need it for anything else)

Obviously you still won't do as much damage as the others can do but at least this way you're never really be completely idle. Also if I'm very low on mana I switch to Aspect of the Viper just before the Val'kyrs grab people - so if I get grabbed I'll be regening mana during the time I can't do anything anyway.

Feigning out of the threatlist probably doesn't work, although I haven't done complete testing on the matter, you'd still lose a lot of dps time sitting feigned until the Val'kyrs have chosen their targets so it doesn't seem very viable.

Badkarma wrote:Sorry for the very long post, just really would like to continue improving each week and be more competitive with other top hunters but I lack the experience of most of them to know certain things I may be doing wrong. Any help you may be able to give me I'd greatly appreciate.

Long and interesting posts are much better than the usual "gem arp or agi?" posts I get... So no problem ;)

Effina wrote:Just a simple question. I am currently using 2 set T10 2 set T9(shoulders/chest T10, and helm/pants T9). Just got the 264 T10 and Im wondering if it is worth breaking the 2 set bonus of the T9(both are ilvl245).

I'm tempted to guess it's not worth it just yet - but you could go for the T10 gloves, seeing you could use the hit (and you'll have to buy the gloves at some point anyway).

Effina wrote: http://www.wowarmory.com/character-shee ... &cn=Effina

Anything else you feel inclined to comment on would be great. Just waiting on some hit raiting(and a new belt...) to go full arp. Thanks in advance!

You could use a better trinket to replace Grim Toll, but I don't know outright if something like HWT would be better. Also that belt really isn't that hot... :D

Deepfriedegg wrote:Kruf, I think you forgot about Piercing Shots talent, which deals 30% (39% with debuff on target) additional damage over 8 seconds of Chimera, Aimed and Steady shot, if that shot have critted. This talent doesnt affect the Serpent portion of chimera so in fact you would need more ticks - on average 2 or 3. Exact number depends on: 1) Has Steady Shot critted (very likely it had) 2) How many times Piercing Shots will tick before the target dies. 3) How many times will Serpent tick before target dies

This leaves us with so much variables that before you would find out what shot to use, you would have lost your GCD anyway :) To be honest, I would go with Steady.

Right you are, let's see some tweaked math:

One full Piercing Shots from a Steady Shot crit does about 2.4k damage over 8sec, ticking every second, so about 300/tick.

In most parses I have roughly 62-63% crit rate on Steady, so we can calculate that "on average" the Piercing from the first Steady does 0.63*2400 = 1512 damage over 8sec.

So, for 8sec case we have:

Code: Select all
5922 Steady
1512 Piercing ticks
=
7434 total

vs

Code: Select all
5320 Chimera - Serpent
987 Serpent tick
987 Serpent tick
=
7294 total

So, in case the mob dies after 8sec but before 9sec, you'll have done slightly more damage on average without the sting, however the difference is very small and the damage is much less "steady" depending more on your crits. Note also that casting Steady Shot takes 0.2sec more time unless some haste buff is up, further closing the gap.

Hey Kruf,

Im still caught in 2 minds about 4pc bonus.
At this point of time Im using 2pc iL264s T10 (Helm & Shoulders) with Logsplitters
and Draconic Bonesplinter Legguards for the ArP. I also have iL264 T10 legs in the
bank at this time but I cant decide if i should get the iL264 10 gloves first for 4pc
or save up for the chest, (20badges short argh). If only VoA25 was kind to me ;(

Also, which aspect of gearing / speccing of mine would you change to optimize
dps output?
