'Careful Aim' Confusion

Hey there guys,

Just wanted to pop a question mainly to Devai and Kruf, however anyone else feel free to give your answers and suggestions.

I did look through posts already saying what "some" people do in CA phase from Pre-potting to starting standard phase. However, with 4.2 out and Devai and Kruf geared in most ilvl 391, I wanted to know if anything has changed in CA phase for you guy's?

I have been Pre-potting > Pre-casting AI > CS > SrS > RF/Readiness/BF > then keeping CS on CD and AI when at 50+ focus unless CS is at 2-1 seconds left before it comes off CD.

This is what the hunters in my guild have been using, and told me to do. I was told to keep SrS up and CS on CD even during CA phase. I canno't seem to push my dps in such high bursts at a begining of a fight as they do and would like to correct this, I feel I may be doing something wrong. I'd like some feedback and basically a straight out answer as to what Devai is doing for CA opening and what other hunter's are also doing.

Thanks in advance!

During CA, I almost never use CS and only apply SrS to boss when I have to move a few yards. If I can stand still, I just hardcast aimed and keeping the steady shot buff up.

I dont think u should use CS for anything else than refreshing SrS during CA phase. ;)

I´ve tried both hardcasting AI without applying SrS at all, and apllying it and only refreshing it when it´s necessery and from my experience just hardcasting AI´s is the way to go.

During the CA I dont apply SrS, unless I have to move. I only prepot, using both RF + readiness, while spamming Aimed shots. This works very good for me. If I need to move more, and SrS is up, I just pop a chimera shot.

We've had *alot* of P1 rag hardmode experience.. and from what I can tell;

-prepot, aimed at 2sec till pull, full CD burn, aimed spam (2x steady then aimed, usually the last few sec of RF I do 2x steady, aimed, 1steady, aimed to take advantage of the last little bit of haste),
-do 2 steadies without RF to refresh ISS, readiness, 2nd RF, continue aimed spam.
-generally the last 5 seconds of this the boss hits 89%, and I use the last bit of focus from rapid recup for getting Srs and Chim fired.

The above yeilded more dps then the following:

-prepot, aimed at 2sec till pull, srs, CD burn, chimera, 2xsteady, aimed spam.
-fire Chimera only when Srs has 6-5 sec left (due to travel time to rag)
-attempt to setup a situation where I fire chimera, readiness, chimera, RF, continue aimed spam

----------------------------------

The dps difference is on the order of around 4k for me -- but keep in mind the first 10% we're talking 45k vs 40-41k .. so around a 10% loss.
There is of course issues where you get punted, have to move for traps, etc.. but on those lucky times where I barely have to move, this has definitely been the way to go.

Note: if your healers are struggling, you can save readiness, and deterrence the first trap detonation, THEN readiness and RF/aimed spam continue.. However, usually you'll lose out of 10seconds of CA + RF time. -- the dps difference for me here is 45k vs 38k at boss 89% hp. -- You would then readiness, RF again, due to NOT being in CA, you would priortize Chimera over aimed.... and you'd have another deterrence available for the 2nd trap detonation in P1 (hardmode)

Good luck

The following has been working the best for me, been trying to do a regular Aimed Shot "focus dump" rotation, using two AI's per cycle and variations hereof, among other things.

Anyway, here goes:

Prepot.
Apply Serpent Sting (precasting Aimed is an option, but I would not recommend it, because it messes up the next step)
Chimera Shot
Readiness / Cooldown trinkets / Rapid Fire / Call of the Wild / Everything.
Chimera Shot again.

Now simply keep up the ISS buff, and get as many AI's off as possible, sounds easy enough, but it is a little tricky to deal with, I usually do the following when the GCD of the Chimera Shot has ended:

Steady Shot x2
Aimed Shot
Steady Shot x1 (If you got the focus to then fire an AI)
Aimed Shot

Rinse and repeat, any Steady Shot that does not bring you further up the focus bar, and / or helps you refresh ISS -just in time- is wasted.

Try and keep these guidelines in mind, and practice. ;)

Did you just neglect to put in the initial rapid fire or do you not actually cast an initial Rapid Fire before you hit Readiness? If you don't, why not? Seems like a major DPS loss not to.

I've been playing around a bit, and I have noticed that the best course of action I have taken so far is to Rapid>Readiness>Tolvir>Call of the Wild> Pre-cast Aimed> then continune to Aimed and always doing 2 SS's in between Aimeds until I hit 100 focus where I can get 2 more Aimeds off before my Rapid falls off. I then follow through with my second Rapid and do the same. I've been netting higher dps then trying to fit Chimera and SrS in. Hitting 50-55k dps at the beginning of a fight. Due to the nerfs in Firelands, CA phase lasts much shorter now =( it would be higher, but oh well, Rag gets fun though.

I was assuming that it would be obvious, but yes, I do cast an initial Rapid Fire before Readiness, of course.

As for Ryu, I am glad that you found something that suited you, and it looks interesting, so I might give it a try.
