I'm considering buying these from AH (money is no object), although before I do I want to check they're actually worth it. I'm assuming since they can be upgraded to heroic version they are.
I'm using Heroic Symbiotic Worm at the moment.

Depends on what are you aiming for.
Sincerely i see a lot of people spending tons of gold in slightly less useful gadget like "Kalytha's Haunted Locket" for example; so i (that i'm kinda nerd) tend to get everything in order to face each situation.

Anyway trinket is good for spell tanking (because bloc is obviously useless in that case) for heavy physical damage i still prefer symbiotic (just because it procs more and atm its not worth wasting a token for hc trinket version)

As i always say it's up to you to choose what fits better for you.
My personal suggestion is to re-think a bit your role (bloc cap way may be kinda usefull (note: depends on your raidcomp))

Least but not last: gear isn't an issue (just look at guilds that have cleared almost all the content already), it doesn't matter if you are geared or not if you stand in fire.


TLDR:
buy it if you got money and/or you would feel more happy wearing it, otherwise its not such a big deal(ATM).
