Afflication Warlock Low Dps

Hello Warlocks of Paragon,

I have just recently started heroics in cataclysm. I am only doing max 6k dps (as tracked by Recount) in heroics while others are doing over 10k. I have read the guides on EJ. I have been keeping BoD, UA, and Corruption on and using Haunt and DemonSoul when they're on cooldown and using shadowbolt as filler. I can't find the problem for why I'm doing such low dps. It's still the same dps even when I'm practicing on dummies.

The only reason I can think of is maybe I don't have gems and enchants. But I don't think these will increase 4k in dps. Most of the players I ran heroics with didn't have these either and still did way more than me. So this is why I am very confused.

First of all, when you track your output be sure to set your recount to monitor "Damage Done" instead of "DPS", the latter is unaccurate, tracked in a stupid way and utterly useless.

You didn't mention using Drain Soul execute at all, so I'd start from getting used to that. On trash or multi-target situations, unless your group is struggling and demands more focused DPS, you should try putting up UA and Corruption to all available targets, and utilizing Soulburn SOC and Shadowflame for AoE.

And with your gear, I'd say running heroics might be a bit easier with the other two specs. And gemming will help, you could expect every +40 int to an empty socket to bring you up to ~100 or so more DPS.

Thank you very much Hermanni for your advice. I've switched to destruction for now. What kind of damage or dps should I expect with a boss fight on heroics given my current gear? I just want a reference so that I can compare my performance.
