Hello everyone.
Short and simple, I wonder how you do your videos to get your videos crystalclear on youtube? Like in your Paragon VS Lich King 25HM 0% Buff videos, it is very easy to read and see all the text for example.
I have been experimenting a lot now with different codecs and they turn out good on the computer. However, when I upload them to Youtube, something happen. It's hard to explain but the video gets kind of distorted(?). The text and what not get a bit fuzzy.
Here is a video to show you what I mean:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wkuv-9zzbUc
You can see my WoW-settings in the video.
Recorded with FRAPS:
30fps, Full Screen
Exported with Adobe Premiere:
H.264, 1920x1080. 30fps, progressive, square pixels, target bitrate 8,75 Mbps, max bitrate 12Mbps.
Thank you for all your great videos that you are putting out! They are great fun to watch :)

Hey Zackiz.
There is an easy way to fix your problem.
When you are going to render your movie, use bigger vertical resolution than 1080 pixels.
By doing this you can unlock the "Original" quality setting in youtube, it has higher bitrate and produces overall slighty better image. I haven't tried if this has any positive impact on the 1080p quality.
Usually when I am cutting our movies, there is footage with 16:10 aspect ratio, then I can use 1920x1200 resolution and the 16:9 aspect ratio footage will fit in the picture with small black bars in the top and bottom.
If you only have 16:9 (1920x1080p) footage, you could try using some wierd resolution like 1956x1100 or setup your project resolution at 1920x1200, you'll get the black borders to the video but the footage does not get skewed if you wan't to render the video at 1920x1200 resolution.
I use these settings for our movies:
Project
Resolution: 1920x1200
Pixel aspect ratio: 1.0
Fields: No fields (Progressive scan)
Render
Resolution: 1920x1200
Pixel aspect ratio: 1.0
Codec: H.264 PAL
FPS: 30
Field order: None
Profile: Main
Level: 5.0
Bitrate encoding: VBR, 2 pass
Target bitrate: 10
Max bitrate: 15

Thank you very much Maeil! It worked well :)

It took a couple of exports messing around with some but these were the settings I think gave the best result. I record all my videos in 1920x1080 so I personally only had to worry about that part. This also seams to not give letterboxes at all.

Nevermind my previous post, just saw that Adobe Premier was mentioned. I thought you were using Sony Vegas.

I'm frapsing at 1680x1050, what can you suggest me to do couse im on my way to kill myself soon. I'm using Sony Vegas 9 for video editing and normally if i encode the video in the frapsed resolution i get only 720p.
I followed Xav's guide (from Premonition) and get 1080p but at the cost of black borders around the movie. The other way is to crop part of the movie from the top and the bottom (which wouldn't be much of a problem if i configure my UI to not have anything in the cropped area like addons and stuff, but in the end - why the hell all this?)
If i understand correctly if i upload 1920x1080 movie i'll get 1080p option, and if its 1920x1200 i'll get the "Original' option?
1680x1050 is 16x10 resolution just like 1920x1200 and its amongst the most widely used resolutions, i just cant get it why youtube makes everyone using it to struggle and to make sacrifices in order to get higher quality for a couple of pixels difference.
Anyway, back to the question, is there any other way to get 1080p/original with 1680x1050 without blackbordering or cropping or whatever other things like these.
(not to mention the fact that if the uploaded movie is exactly x1080 it has definitely worse quality than if it was x1072 or x1094 apparently)
p.s. im sorry if it looks like post-hijacking but its all for the cause to get better movies on youtube in the end :)
edit: last night i made a test and put my 1680x1050 frapsed video in 1920x1200 frame and encoded as 1920x1200 and i got the 1080p and Original options in youtube, the quality was like the the file on my PC, which tho wasnt so good because of the stretching from 1680x1050->1920x1200. But yet again i think it's slightly better than 720p. So in the end i get the "extreme quality options" but the movies are far from it. Looks like someone pretty brainless did all this on youtube >< ... unless there is a really valid excuse for it.

I'm sorry if this is an old thread but I have a question.
When you ( maeil ) talk about settings
Obviously u aren't talking about Fraps setting but u are talking about setting of a video editing software, which software is it? Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas or something else?

one important thing to know when compressing movies is that the height and width must be dividable by 16.
not sure why but aparently its becoz codec's and compressing works in blocks of 16.
thats why adding width/height or crop the movies gives better quality becoz the new resolution is dividable by 16.
resizing is never a good option, as that will screw up any text on the screen.
