Frequently Asked Questions

Question: What's the correct shot rotation?

Answer: There is no fixed rotation. Both MM and SV use a priority list, and always use the highest priority shot ready to use.

MM: Silencing Shot (does not use GCD) > Kill Shot > Serpent Sting (if not already up) > Chimera Shot > Aimed Shot > Steady Shot.
SV: Kill Shot > Explosive Shot > Serpent Sting > Black Arrow > Aimed Shot / Multi-Shot > Steady Shot.

Question: Should I gem agi or arpen?

Answer: "Depends." If you're SV, definitely agi, however if you're MM and have decent gear the question becomes harder to answer. Use the available tools (spreadsheets, simulators) to figure out which is better for your gear.

I am not in your guild or on EU but i know you are the Number 1 guild. I was just wondering how you guys can do 10k+ dps in MM. I can get to 7k max. Not sure if its my gear but im guessing all of you did 10k Dps in ToC gear.

My rotation may be the problem i start the fight with SrS,(Call of the Wild+Rapid Fire once my ArP trinket procs) CS+SS, AiS, Steady x2,Readiness, CS+SS,AiS,Steady till CS and AiS are up. No macro shots may screw it up im not sure if that would make that significant of a difference.

May be that crap gun but again 3k difference doesnt sound like an improvement in weapon.

Thanks for your help good luck with Lich King hard mode

I dropped your armory profile into simulationcraft and it suggests around 9.2k dps with full raid buffs and debuffs on target, so 7k sounds a bit on the low side.

There's some details about the rotation, or lack thereof, in this thread which I won't repeat here.

Some suggestions for improvement: drop herbalism, get a real raid dps profession instead (JC is the best choice for ranged). Replace the helmet with T9, even the ilevel 232 T9 is massive upgrade due to the 2piece setbonus being very good. You're also pretty far (very far, if you always have draenei in 25man raids) over the hitcap, so might consider trying to pick up some piece(s) with less hit. If you don't always have a draenei I'd suggest running with 2 specs, one with 1 point more in the hit talent.

Check out this wowhead profile, this shows about 9.5k on simulationcraft - 300dps from just switching one item, a few talent points and JC as second profession.

PS. Note that as MM with arp build you're relying heavily on buffs/debuffs from others; especially if sunders/expose are missing you'll lose a huge chunk of dps.

You'd gain 3*14=42 arp/agi with it. One point of preferred stat is about 2dps, so 42*2=84dps, very roughly.

Mh,

I accidentally read through this topic and now I am a bit surprised.
Kruf said that ~7k dps on when the sheet says ~9k theoretical dps seems to be low. However femaledwarf calculates a dps value round about ~12k dps for me and so far I never did that much Dps in icecrown, besides Lana'thel which obviously is not really representative.
Of course there is no real tank&spank fight in icc and i am often on special duties, so my dps mostly ranges between 8k and 10k dps. I was really confident with these numbers up to now, because i am top5 in my raid in most cases, but reading the comment above makes me guess, that my overall performance is not that good.
ok i know you can only pull out high dps numbers when the other members on your raid also do loads of dmg because the fight gets shorter, cooldowns&lust stronger aso. but can you really get that close to your theoretical dps value during icc raids?

ps. please excuse linguistic mistakes, i'm german :>

Note that the EJ spreadsheet (and by corollary, femaledwarf which is based on it) estimates about 1k higher than simulationcraft (which seems to match reality pretty well on standstill). Of course you won't be reaching the theoretical max numbers on fights with movement and special duties, but about 90-95% is reachable on most fights (Marrowgar, Saurfang, Festergut, Rotface at least).

See this Saurfang hardmode log for example, at the time simulationcraft was estimating ~11.3k dps for me and I did ~10k - not that bad with trap+add duty, I'd say.

Ok, I did not know, that Simcraft actually calculates the DPS a bit lower.

However I have on more question if you don't bother.
Tonight I achieved around 10.7k dps on Festergut, I was lucky with Vile Gas (only was targeted one time) however our server quite sucks at rush hour, so it was a bit laggy.

I guess with a second Haste Potion and if I wouldn't have messed up with Readiness/Killshot below 20% I could have achieve roughly 11k dps.
Now I recognized during the last days that many top players prefer CS over Ks Glyph.
Now when I look at our typical ICC fights KS gives me at least one more shot, in most cases 2, and on some fights like Putricide even more.
In contrary I would gain about 2-3 additional CS, while of course at Putricide this number increases significantly, I cannot imagine how CS glyph could ever be better than KS.
Furthermore I still fire off CS and AiS directly consecutive(lol googled that word:>). Do you think adding 2x Steady between them would be a Dmg increase, I don't really like the 2x SS "rotation" because I often suck it up when I have to move, or during iAotH/Hero aso.
