I think it would be interesting to consider how a person may answer depending on whether they are doing so from strictly a raiding perspective vs a non-raiding perspective.

In terms of RL, answering truthfully and ignoring WoW I still get INTJ as the OP suggested would probably be the case, but my scores were pretty different for IN but almost identical or TJ (67, 25, 50, 44). Answering truthfully and considering the questions from a "raiding only" perspective I get ENTJ (22, 50, 38, 78).

That's a fascinating question! Indeed, we did not dictate how folks should think as they took the test, and in some ways I did not want to ask people to put a "raiding hat" on versus a "regular life hat" while they took the test as that's too prescriptive, BUT perhaps some of us do that anyway. A friend of mine who used to raid in WoW once told me that he used to get a rush out of being a dictatorial raid leader who barked orders at anyone--a kind of persona he adopted for raiding as a release from his work day and having to "behave" in daily life. I would imagine the personality type of this friend as raider versus the personality he'd have in regular life would be quite different.

It's too late to factor that in now, but perhaps as we reflect and discuss more, people can share what they were thinking as they did the test.

Perhaps certain personality types are more likely to be interested in games or even more specifically MMORPGs?

Both very interesting observations--I was particularly interested in the lower amount of "E" types. Although, the data we have is based on Americans, no idea if we have a shift in prevalence of personality types once you move to Europe, particularly northern European countries.

And I think what we're trying to ascertain here is exactly what Kruf asks--you hit the nail on the head.:)

Mana wrote:Btw, I'm noticing a lot of people in 2000+ ranked guilds are labelling themselves "hard core". I'm not saying they're not hard core in their eyes, but let me just say that if the difference between an ELITE guild and a hard core top 70ish is huge, then the difference between a top 70 guild and a top 2000+ is gigantic. A lot of people are unaware of this until they actually start raiding with a top guild. Maybe you should put another label fe. "semi-hardcore" or something? Dunno if this will make a huge difference in this study but I just wanted to point this out.

Mana, very valid point (and thanks for your response, Diamondtear, we do need a link to the rankings). I knew when I tried to describe our rankings that it would be problematic--we have elite, something just under there (although if you guys are a top 50 ranked guild, I'd suggest you would be elite or semi-elite and not hard core. Or no? God, this does my head in...), hard core, semi-hard core, casual raiding, social raiding, pug (unguilded) raiding... and God knows what else....

And then we have to break it down and it gets even more troublesome:

Elite: Top X [insert number here] in the world and region (maybe whoever gets on the first page of wowprogress? or is that stupidly random?)

Semi-elite: Top 100? (again, are we being random?) But if you're aiming to be as high as possible and do the hard work during intense progression times, then I'd say you're more elite than the next ranking...

The middle is very hard to figure out....

What is hard core? Is that a state of mind more than a state of guild? Does ranking mean less when thinking of the way the guild functions? And, after all, not everyone can fit into the world's top 500 guilds--no matter how competitive and skilled we may be. And what is semi-hard core? Is that casual plus?

We have casual being a guild that's primarily formed for raiding (and has the skills to do it) but has a slower progression due to time limits. But even the word casual is problematic for a lot of so-called casual raiders because their modified approach to raiding does not mean they lack skill, from their experience and perspective, they just have less time. That's up for debate, of course, as due to time constraints a lot of casual raiding guilds may find they need more time for success as they have less consistent members on the team.

And then there is social, which may be a guild that's social in structure and does intermittent raiding. And perhaps there's one of those combined guilds where they do raiding and allow social members. And we actually even have elite guilds (like Stars) who have elite raiding while also have a large cadre of social members.

Anyway, great thought and one of the big questions I've been looking at for a long time in my research.

Maybe the people should read the profile of their personality type from the given links and think for themselves if it doesn't fit them one bit, either irl or in game and say if its really off. It would probably give a bit more reliability to the test too.

Goddamn, this fissure skill is inaccurate.
