Hey all!
I'm that postgraduate researcher who's doing her PhD on WoW raiders (I posted a couple months ago about my interview with some of the Paragon members over the summer). As my blog is way less exciting than this one, I thought I'd post a little link to my own site to get your help with participating in my latest poll. I'm looking at where we set our computers up to play. For some of us that's in our bedrooms (especially if we live at home still or if we share a house with others), for others it's in the more communal areas of the house, like our living rooms. What I don't necessarily believe, but what the media and alarmists love to suggest, is that we hide away from the world to pursue our so-called 'antisocial' craft.
But regardless, let me know where you like to sit (or stand? :) when you raid! :)

I absolutely love Ladan's work and I think it's important. Everyone reading this just take off that 5 seconds from forum browsing, go to the web page and help with the research. The more people we have answering the better picture we get.

Everyone who has the time, go and support Ladan in her work. She is doing a phenomenal job and I think it is great to see games and the social aspect behind them going into the academic level.

Interesting indeed.
I bet you won't believe we do raid in Cuba actually me & my friends use to set up Lan Parties once a month, also in different locations.
Since gaming culture isn't exactly properly recognized, (although gamers are everywhere) it's kinda hard setting up a big event LAN event. Anyway we're looking forward to it.

Thanks so much for the support, guys! :) It makes me feel more determined than ever to not just get the PhD done but also to get the work out there in general. I am so proud to be part of our gaming community.
Chris, are you saying you are raiding from Cuba? That's absolutely amazing. But why should I be amazed? Where there's a will there's a way, I always say. I'd love to see examples of your LAN parties!
So we're all bored today in anticipation of the patch. At least we're predicted 2 hours less wait than the US servers. Not that I'm holding my breath. I was dumb enough to schedule a supervision meeting with my professors to show them the game today. Suffice it to say it's been pushed out by a week. :)
Anyways, I came up with a new poll (plus a little analysis on our last one, thanks for the votes, guys) about how we feel about patch days and what our priorities tend to be. It's a bit of an experimental poll so let me know if makes any sense or if I missed anything.
