What can I improve?

I have looked through some of the posts on this forum from other mages seeking advice and the responses have been very positive and helpful, so I was hoping someone could do the same for me.

For the most part, I feel like I am doing alright compared to the rest of my raid group but I am not so sure I am on par with some of the other mages. I'm not sure if there are things I could be doing better or maybe its just a gear thing and I will catch up at some point. However I am quite disappointed with our heroic Zon'ozz kill last night with my damage done.

Log from zonozz: http://worldoflogs.com/reports/rt-y2dnl ... 908&e=8254

A couple things I am aware of:
Living Bomb clipping. I know I am guilty of this every now and then.
Spreading dots through impact. I know I have more opportunities to use this then I am taking advantage of.
I should also pre pot more often.

I felt pretty good about our normal hagara kill that night, which you can also find the log on that link above.

If you would like any logs from previous nights, here is our calendar for January: http://worldoflogs.com/guilds/153996/calendar/01-12/

Notes:
We are a 10 man guild, and do not have spell haste buff on a regular basis.
Our warlock uses dark intent on me.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Blayde,

As far as Zon'ozz is concered you are being beat primarily because others are switching back to the boss sooner than you. I'm not in your guild to know if that's good or bad, but either way they much more damage on the boss than you do. This link will show you the damage done to the boss. Check yourself and another player to compare when and for how long you are attacking the boss.

If you are clipping Living Bomb you are losing a lot of damage. It's okay if it's not on the boss for a GCD while you cast a fireball. It's more important that you let it explode first. Since you posted it I assume you already know that :)

If you have not read my Ignite Guide for Combustion I would advise that you check that out because it will help to improve your combustion damage.

It's difficult to come up with any other comments (especially while World of Logs is in Peak Hours), but if you have more specific questions I'd be happy to assist. Maybe looking at a particular fight of yours, or a question on how another mage was able to succeed so well. You are doing really well. I would advise you to start looking at others' logs (if you don't already) to find the little things in fights that will make you better. I also like to watch kill videos of lots of fights as well.

Hit me up with any other questions,

Thanks for your response!

Zonozz may not have been the best example to post. I guess I wasn't thinking about it at the time, but the reason I don't get to the boss as quick as everyone else is because I end up killing the last Flail and eyestock pretty much on my own (our warlock helps out when necessary). We are usually able to have the last eyestock right as the ball is spawned.

I used to record our fights during firelands (although I was arcane for the majority of that), and review to kind of watch my performance and see what I could be doing better. I uploaded most of them to youtube as well. I really need to start doing this again in dragon soul, it may help me see something that I don't realize while in the middle of a fight.

Last night, I also made some adjustments to my reforging that should give me about 1k more dps according to rawr and simc.

I guess what I feel like I am comparing myself to is on the ranking info page on WoL.

http://worldoflogs.com/reports/rt-2kl48 ... 027&e=1350

For example on our Heroic Ultraxion kill last night this states I did 36283.6 dps which is 78.9% of the rank limit of 45959.5. Is this a fair metric to judge myself on? Maybe its just a reception issue on my part, but I feel like I should be closer to that "rank limit". Although, the different between me and the person who set that rank limit could simply be gear.

Maybe I am just paranoid about it =).
