Troll and Goblin are not the only good races for pve mage, last time I ran some Simcraft Orc gave the best results as arcane and this has been discussed in EJ some time ago also (that's why I'm Orc myself, also for the coolness =) ), fire would be all different case however. I personally think that mages don't need the goblin jump racial and on top of that Berserking is little stronger at average than 1% haste that Goblins give, so I would go for Troll or Orc. If you don't want to pay the race change if/when fire becomes viable go for Troll. Just be sure to use Berserking at correct time when burning so you don't go over haste cap when bloodlust is on.
