Good afternoon,
I always read up on my class and always try to improve my dps. At the moment im stuck doing only 6/12 gold runs as my internet isn't applicable for guild raids depending on everyone to be at their top performance. This being said, I see many skilled players pushing very high numbers in icc, up to 20k. I have all my attainable gear from the first 6 normal bosses and consider myself to be "skilled" though i cant seem to break 14k. http://www.wowarmory.com/character-shee ... cn=Metrius . The raid comp. most of the time consists of a spriest, boomkin, unholy dk, ele shaman which provide most of my buffs and debuffs, don't usually have a demo lock. I am aware I am under hit cap with current gear choices until I eat hit food, demand i have a heroic presence in my group and a spriest or druids 3% debuff which puts me right at the 17% mark. If i don't have the 3% buff available i use the 245 hit trinket. I double pot, wild magic before and haste under 25%. I don't clip dots and I try my best to LT while moving(not specced into dark pact or improved life tap as i don't run out of mana and tanks suck). All i'm wondering is what i'm doing wrong so that people are pulling up to 6k more dps than me, its really bothering me. Is it my internet connection as i go below 5fps most of the time during boss fights?(living in the boonies blows) Does full 277 gear really make 6k dps difference?! Maybe i'm not a skilled player like i thought :( but i was wondering what some of your look on this might be?? Thanks for reading my "novel" and i hope to hear from some exceptional locks soon.
Take care.

Upgrading from 264 to 277 is quite an upgrade yes, and will really be noticable. But what more that some people forget, is that in a guild where everyone is more or less in 277 gear, the fights will get much shorter. Shorter fight = higher % of the fight is done Bloodlusted / potted = higher dps values.
As for how to play a warlock, I'll leave that to others. :)

Makes sense and I thank you for your reply. :)
I do believe I forgot to mention I do run affliction in raids, armory provides that info. but I figured i'd let you readers know if you didn't want to navigate to my armory.
As for the length and mechanics of boss fights this makes sense. In addition to what I may be doing wrong or the top warlocks are doing exceptional, I'm also wondering more specifically for boss fights as well. This being, bone spikes on normal marrowgar i usually try to throw up shadowflame and saronite bomb on normal mode so people don't QQ about 100% boss up-time(i see many heroic logs where SoC is in the top 4 or 5 spells for marrowgar, assuming thats done during bonestorm). LDW I usually stick on boss, maybe an occasions SoC on adds. Saurfang I'd usually cast corruption on about 3 adds and continue on boss, lately i've just been 100% on boss, maybe if nightfall procs i throw it on a lose add. Festurgut i try to grab 2 spores and shadow ward before pungent blight (obviously using teleport and nitro boosts to my advantage so I'm not running around to much). These are just a few examples of how i go about boss mechanics, any improvements here?
Thanks for your time again, hopefully i get some more replies for what was stated earlier and what i just added.

Hello Metrius.
I'm already sorry I can't really say much more than has already been said, because that's mostly what there is to it. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with how you play from what I could tell from a quick glance at your logs. I do like how you described what you do as well, it saves me from trying to cover any of that and you from getting a reply you don't need. And no, from that part there doesn't seem to be much wrong about what you described either, although I'm not sure if I'm gonna buy you not running out of mana on 4-minute fights while not using too much LT.
As teh already mentioned, for example Bloodlust uptime plays a notable role when comparing your DPS with top-guild player DPS. Say if we kill Saurfang in about 2 minutes, it means we're getting about ((0.3x40):120)x100%=~10% average haste from Bloodlust for then entire fight while on your almost 4-minute kill it would be around ((0.3x40):240)x100%=~5%. And as one might surmise, without taking cooldowns and potions into account, on a kill twice as short you get twice the benefit from Bloodlust or Infernal.
And of course as has already been said, gear does in fact play a notable role, especially considering how stat values tend to scale upwards as you obtain more of them.
I can understand that obtaining better gear or running shorter fights is pretty hard if you run a 6/12 normal pug. However, if you really want to see if you can blast higher numbers with what you've got, I'd recommend doing two things. Firstly, using an Infernal at the right time will give you a DPS boost, and secondly, getting a Nevermelting Ice Crystal and using it whenever it's viable should get you even higher, especially if you keep up with Wild Magic pre-potions and strike a deal with a rogue for (preferably glyphed) early tricks that won't get you killed.
Lastly, having a good connection is always great, but if your framerates are low, the problem might just be in hardware.

Thanks Manni for clearing some things up for me. You mention using an infernal at the "right time". In your opinion when is the "right time"? NMIC over heroic spyglass? Normal DFO? Normal halion trinket if i was able to come by one? My only resource for trinket choices is maxdps.com which I'm sure isn't very reliable when it comes to trinkets. Lastly, caught in a bit of a lie, should i spec LT or dark pact as i've read that dark pact becomes better at 3300 spell power, whats your opinion on that?
Thanks again,
Metrius

And the reason i ask about speccing for LT is because you picked up dark pact but yet tsukky and jubeto still only have LT.
Thanks
Thanks

The right time to pop Inferno is when the boss has 60 seconds left to live (or well, you should start casting a bit before that.) Addons like TimeToDie can help you estimate it. Wherever NMIC is viable, I'd use it over Muradin's, and I'd recommend speccing Dark Pact if it doesn't feel like you don't want another button for the same purpose.
I visited maxdps once but to me it seemed rather outdated and inaccurate so I didn't bother doing it again. If you're looking for up to date theorycrafting, I'd suggest you to spend some time in elitistjerks and with the latest spreadsheet, Rawr and/or simulationcraft.
