Trying to Affliction and not look back...

Evening all,

My toon is Aeja from Stormrage. As she was getting bigger I have tried all the specs but as she settled into level 80 destro became her calling, however recently her gear has gotten big enough that I know I need to change to affliction. I have read a ton of forums about affliction and like i said i have played it in the past, however I cannot seem to get the hang of it, even my raiding leader asked me what had happened to my dps the other day and I told him that I was trying to switch over because it suppose to do "better" dps. He laughed and told me to keep working at it. So in all the low bosses in ICC I practice Affliction, but when it matters I have to go back to what myself and my raid is comfortable with.

Also, one MAJOR note, I swear every single piece of gear I have picked up lately no absolutely no haste on it, so I was going to go back and gem for it. Is this a good idea, and how much is the lack of haste ruining my dps??

check it out if you want...

My haste is only 474(so embarassing) I swear I did not try to do this
but I think if I gem for haste only it will give me an extra 150haste

Chow,
Grasshopper

Hello Grasshopper.

Looking at your profile, I don't really know where to begin. It would have been helpful to not equip that fishing pole. I assume you had it from a melee DPS player that you need to socket a Nightmare Tear to activate your meta. Don't. Just socket Purified Dreadstone (12sp/10spi) to where you get the best socket bonuses from to keep it active. And don't socket Spell Penetration either.

Your have almost twice as much hit as you need, assuming you raid with a Moonkin or a Shadow Priest, and even without either of those you're still well beyond the cap. I'd also suggest you to get rid of the mp5 gear. What strikes to me as the weirdest thing about your gear is that you only have 1 piece of t10 instead of 4 and you seem to have spent emblems on those incredibly bad emblem trinkets instead. Please tell me this has nothing to do with Gearscore.

Then let's switch to the subject everyone is concerned about nowadays. First of all, there are no set-in-stone boundaries for haste. Secondly, I'd guess around 95% of the time SP is more valuable than haste and you should still consider it as your primary stat. However, as you're mostly decked in 264 spirit-heavy gear or higher and your haste still lags a raid tier or two behind, you've probably fallen into the 5% category where haste potentially is a bit more valuable than SP. If you're up to it, you could stack your yellow and red sockets with Reckless Ametrines and switch back to usual socketing when you obtain more haste gear, but don't expect a drastic improvement. I can't really say I'd even recommend that though.

Here's a quick to-do list to fix some of your gear issues:

-get t10 head, chest and shoulders.
-Get Nevermelting Ice Crystal over your Maghia's (if you don't know why it's good for you, check the other recent threads)
-Get Band of the Invoker from triumph vendor until you find something better as your second ring.
-Get rid of excess hit in your gear. Remember, the DPS value for hit you don't need is 0.
-When looking for upgrades, try and fix the following item slots first: Your first trinket, neck and back.

Hi Manni,

So sorry about the fishing pole (I do have a descent staff), and I went back to my bags and pulled out all of my t10 gear. Yes, I did actually have the whole set :/ I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little confused about the item levels for some of the gear, and as much as I hate to admit it, my Realm is completely OBSESSED with GS, you cant get into any raid without it!! But I really try not to let it affect all of my decisions, actually I just bought those horrible trinkets (lol) like two days ago because I didn't have anything else to buy with my frost emblems. For the life me, I can not get one to drop in my raid, but Im sure that will come with time.

Ok so here goes, hope Im not wasting too much of your time, I really do appreciate your feedback!

--first of all I put back on my t10 head, chest and shoulders!!

--next I actually pulled my Band of Invoker out of the bank too (not sure why I had the other one on, sometimes Im just tired when I play, that one was even obivous for me!) However I came across marrowgar's frigid eye http://www.wowhead.com/?item=49967 tonight, from what I can tell I think it is better than the Invoker, but wanted your quick opinion on that one

--if its not too much to ask, if you would mind looking at my gems once again now that I have the right gear on, lol!! http://www.wowarmory.com/character-shee ... ge&cn=Aeja (I did enchant my shoulders but it wasnt coming up on armory, fyi)

--and I was looking at my cloak, I had enough emblems to buy Volde's cloak of the Night Sky http://www.wowhead.com/item=50469 ,

--I was also found the Abyssal Rune in my bag and I will start running PoS for the Nevermelting Ice Crystal asap?

Quick Question, so instead of equipping heroic gear if its not apart of your set, should you just wait for your Marks??

Thank you
Respectfully,

Grasshopper

You know, for a few days I've been wondering if there's something wrong with the armory as it shows you've socketed 20 strenght into your Nibelung...

This post of mine should give you some sort of insight on how affliction is usually gemmed.

As for when it comes to wearing 251 for 4xt10: Do it. You get some of the haste you've been wanting and the set bonuses which are both great. If you really, really need to have some kind of a showoff-set to get you into a raid group, just make an item set with your highest itemlevel gear and use it when you know you're going to be inspected and swap to your "real" set when the raid begins. No one will probably bother to double-check.
