Hi!
I have a question for the affliction warlocks. When I play destro I can east go up to 14k dps in icc but when I play affliction I have to push to get 11k so I dont know what Im doing wrong. My rotation is SB-haunt-ua-corr-coa and spam sb as a filler. there must be a reson why everyone play affliction instead of destro.

Hello Harry,

With your gear affliction should easily outstrip destruction in output, which makes me think there might be something you aren't doing quite correctly. You described your rotation above, but I would like to know if you are doing the following: Using Drain Soul to execute targets below 25% health, delaying Haunt to land it right before it expires instead of casting it when it's off cooldown, making use of the Infernal, reapplying Corruption for Devious Minds (4xt10 proc) and Death's Embrace, keeping your Life Tap Glyph buff active, and reapplying your DoTs after they expire instead of clipping them.

It would also be helpful if you had some kind of combat log parse to present in WMO, WoL or such.

Your gear seems alright apart from some of your gems which seem rather pecualiar (your +20 haste gem, sp/haste in prismatic socket, sp/spirit that doesn't even bring socket bonus.) You might also consider enchanting Tuskarr's Vitality as you don't need the hit from Icewalker.

Generally, you should gem like this for affliction (some exceptions apply):
+23 SP in red sockets
+12 SP +10 Haste in yellow sockets
+23 SP in blue sockets when the bonus is +5 SP (or worse)
+12 SP +10 Spirit on items with one blue socket and a socket bonus better than +5 SP (and enough of these to activate your meta)
+23 SP in prismatic socket
+21 crit rating and 3% crit damage on meta.

+12SP +10 Hit in yellow sockets when you need hit
+12SP +10 Hit in red sockets when you need more hit
+20 Hit in yellow sockets (and elsewhere) when you need hit badly

Also in regards to your opening sequence, you need to make sure the Improved Shadow Bolt or similar debuff has been applied to the boss before you cast Corruption or you'll lose 5% crit from Corruption until you reapply it. I would advise you to cast Corruption after CoA.

I would also like to know if you're for example using Recount's "DPS" tab to monitor your DPS instead of the "Damage Done" tab, because the DPS tab only monitors your damage output as a derivative of a moment of time instead of looking at your total damage output and is by far more inaccurate. This would explain why destruction seems to make better DPS to you.

I think I already forgot something, but feel free to ask if what I wrote doesn't seem helpful or if you'd like to know more.

The fact that you've specced Dark Pact but use Life Tap (which you also specced) is slightly confusing. With your gear, Dark Pact will return more mana without even damaging you, so that's what you should be using. There aren't many good alternatives for the points in Improved Life Tap, but Fel Concentration should be your best bet if you feel like changing them. The downside to Dark Pact is that using it several times in a row will drain your pet dry, which is not what you want. In shorter fights Dark Pact should however be enough to keep you from needing to Life Tap much if at all.

You should overall improve your tap/pacts, on that Festergut kill you seem to have 70% uptime on glyph. Try to time your taps so you have enough mana with just one tap/pact from 35% and downwards, and tap/pact once before boss hits 25% and you shouldn't need to do it again in short fights. Overall try to time your pacts/taps on your Devious Minds downtime, but that's not always possible. And be sure to use Life Tap (preferably rank 1) before you enter combat so you don't need to waste a global in activating the glyph. And remember that you can't Dark Pact when you've got your infernal up.

If you didn't have Devious Minds up when you first cast Corruption and didn't refresh it again, be on a lookout for Devious Minds proc when the boss health is in the 25%-35% gap, and reapply Corruption then.

If your gut isn't good enough about telling you when the boss has 1 minute to live, use TimeToDie (but remember TTD doesn't know about executes or boss mechanics that might hasten it's demise.)

And just to add, I couldn't find a single recording of you blasting 14k as destro, or even much more than you seem to do as affliction :)

Refreshing DoT's through mechanisms like Everlasting Affliction does not update certain modifiers. Several classes have similar mechanics.

I suggest you read the thread Learning to corrupt posted in MMO-Champion to get the general idea.
