I'm just getting started in FL and was wondering if TG or SMF will be better with the gear I have currently.

If SMF is better then what weapons should I get it? Keep in mind I don't have open access to obsidium cleavers at this current time.
And any others tips for dps increase is welcome as I'm pulling roughly 16k.
